My thoughts about BlackHat 2005 - Viva Las Vegas!

Hi…. My name is Brian Schafer and I’m a newb to bloggin!

<Great, now that I got that out of the way… >

Wow! Viva Las Vegas! What an awesome experience! Quite a bit different from Blackhat Seattle I must say! I now have a greater appreciation for the phrase, the “city that never sleeps.” I came, I saw, and I went home wicked tired!

I cannot say enough about how great it was to meet with everyone while in Vegas! Someone remind me to pack more business cards for this next year. After working with folks over the last year through secure@microsoft.com, it was great to finally put a face with a name. Most everyone I spoke with was pleased about the emphasis and progress Microsoft has made in the security arena over the last few years. We love to hear this! We love feedback from the community, whether it’s a pat on the back or a kick in the rear.

Da Sessions…

Hmmm… what can I say? We saw the spectrum! I was very impressed by some of the presentations and others… well… there were others. As Scott stated in his blog, the “Art of File Fuzzing” was a great presentation, well done Michael!

Da Part-A’s….

What, I can’t hear what you said! I have this ringing sound in my ears! Also, if anyone has pictures of me dancing… run, do not walk to the nearest trash receptacle and shred them into tiny pieces! <grin> As for me, I will continue to use my pictures for “leverage” in the coming year. I was rather impressed, there are quite a few of you out there that can definitely tear it up!

Another year is well underway. I’ll be looking forward to meeting everyone back in Vegas for the next episode of Blackhat!
