MSRC’s Release Manager Craig Gehre here. I’ll write first about what you probably care most about today, then on to who I am and why I’m the newest blogger on this site.
This morning we posted the advance notification for next Tuesday’s bulletin release:
7 bulletins affecting Windows. The maximum severity rating for these security updates is Critical and some will require a restart.
1 bulletin affecting Windows and Microsoft Services for UNIX. The, maximum severity rating for this is Moderate and may require a restart.
1 bulletin affecting Microsoft Exchange. The maximum severity rating for this security update is Important and it will not require a restart.
1 bulletin affecting Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server and Small Business Server. The maximum severity rating for these security updates is Moderate and may require a restart.
And of course an update to the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Toolwill be provided as well. For more details, check out the information here.
A cool thing about this release is that nothing else is going out on Windows Update for this release; you only have to deploy Security Updates next Tuesday. Another cool thing, and something I’m very passionate about, is that we are providing a means for you to detect if you need the update for each of the new bulletins. Whether that be MBSA, the Enterprise Scanning Tool, WU, SUS, MU, WSUS, we have you covered. We’ve come a long ways since all the feedback we got on MS04-028.
So enough about that, and a little bit about me since you’ll be seeing me on this blog from time to time. My role in the MSRC is to drive the overall release of the bulletins and updates. That means working with over a dozen teams inside Microsoft and each individual product team involved to make sure we have a quality release. I’ve been here in MSRC for a bit over 2 years now, and have seen a lot of change in this arena. I’ll go into more detail next Tuesday about all the pieces in a Security Bulletin and Update Release, so stay tuned!
